DUI checkpoint in Modesto Friday night, special patrols Saturday

A DUI and driver’s license checkpoint will be held somewhere within the city limits Friday night, the Modesto Police Department reports. It will be in place between 8:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.

DUI checkpoints are a proven effective deterrent. Additionally, drivers will be checked to ensure that they have a valid driver’s license. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving.

Saturday night, the department will have special DUI roving saturation patrols deployed from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Over the past three years, DUI collisions in Modesto have killed seven people and injured 269, the Police Department reports.

The enforcement efforts are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
