The Bay Area-born band Night Ranger will rock the Stanislaus County Fair this summer, playing hits including “Sister Christian,” “When You Close Your Eyes” and “(You Can Still) Rock In America.”

The group’s most recent area appearance also was in Turlock, when it played the Carnegie ROCKS! fundraiser for the Carnegie Arts Center in May 2014.

The five-man band formed in the early 1980s. Its debut album, 1982’s “Dawn Patrol,” featured the hit single “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me.” The band’s success soared with its 1983 sophomore release, the multiplatinum-selling “Midnight Madness.” That disc includes all of the other above-mentioned hits.

Night Ranger has sold more than 17 million albums worldwide. Its songs have been heard everywhere from video games (“Guitar Hero” and “Grand Theft Auto”) to Broadway (“Rock of Ages”) to movies ( “Boogie Nights” and “Friday the 13th”) to TV shows ( “Glee,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Parks & Recreation”).

Its 10th studio album, “High Road,” was released in June 2014. On the Night Ranger website, frontman/bassist/songwriter Jack Blades said of the newest music, “It’s a great time to take a trip down the High Road! Our new record features classic Night Ranger feel-good, high-energy kick-ass rock ’n’ roll.”

The band will play the county fair on July 9 on the Bud Light Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m. The concert will be hosted by 104.1 The Hawk and is free with the price of fair admission.

“Night Ranger is one of those iconic rock bands that know what it means to put on a fantastic show,” fair spokeswoman Adrenna Alkhas said in a news release. “Their rockin’ ’80s hits will have their fans reminiscing and on their feet the entire time.”

The Stanislaus County Fair will open its 10-day run on July 8. Discounted admission tickets, unlimited-ride wristbands and season passes will go on sale April 30. To learn more, go to www.stancofair.com.
