Modesto seeks input on senior center’s kitchen
The city is inviting the public to a Thursday meeting to get its input on a $175,000 project to update the Modesto Senior Citizens Center’s commercial kitchen. The meeting is 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the center, 211 Bodem St.
Audience members will be asked to say what they like and don’t like about two design concepts for the project. The city will use this information in coming up with a final plan. It also could hold another meeting this month based on Thursday’s input.
The $175,000 comes from the federal Community Development Block Grant program. The work includes replacing the electrical and plumbing and installing a new grease trap, as well as replacing the wooden countertops with stainless steel to comply with current health codes. Workers could even remove walls, depending upon which design the city uses.
The kitchen is used by the senior center and groups that rent out the facility for weddings, birthday parties, quinceañeras and other events, said parks project coordinator Jason A. Ortega. He said not counting minor upgrades the kitchen has not been upgraded in 15 to 20 years.
Ortega said the project could go out to bid in July with construction starting in October.
