Info: Celebrating Women’s History Month with guest speakers: Nancy Fisher, president of the Stanislaus County Commission for Women, and Kimberley Vaughan, president of the Successful Women of Central Valley. Presentations on Frances Perkins, the U.S. secretary of labor from 1933 to 1945, who served the longest in that position and was the first woman appointed to a presidential Cabinet. 50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the city of Modesto would seek federal aid for an urban improvement and beautification program. The program would cost $1 million over a six-year period. The proposal was brought to the council by the Modesto Planning Commission for improving municipal parks and properties.
