YESTERYEARS

50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that two Valley Oak League football players were named to the Shrine Football Game in Los Angeles. Don Widmer of Manteca High School and Tom Porter of Sonora High School were selected to play. The all-star game was sponsored by the Al Malaikah Temple and the game was to be played at the Los Angeles Coliseum, July 28, with top prep players from the state. Widmer was a 200-pound guard for Manteca and Porter was a 6-1, 200-pound fullback for Sonora.
