What: Distinguished Young Women of Ceres program

When: 6 p.m. Saturday

Where: Ceres High School gymnasium, 2320 Central Ave.

Info: High school junior girls from Ceres High School and Central Valley High School will join together for the program, hosted by Soroptimist International of Ceres. Participants will compete for more than $4,500 in college scholarships and the opportunity to represent the city as the Distinguished Young Woman of Ceres for the Class of 2017. Tickets will be available for $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, email ceres@distinguishedyw.org.

PATTERSON

What: Eat Better, Move Better

When: Thursdays, starting March 3, 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Where: Hammon Senior Center at 1033 W. Las Palmas Ave.

Info: In partnership with the Healthy Aging Association, Area Agency on Aging and Howard Training Center presents the program. Any senior 60 years or older is welcome to attend the free, short interactive nutrition and physical activity session offered once a week for four weeks. Participants will earn rewards, win weekly prizes, and qualify for a grand prize at the end of four weeks. To register, call 209-523-2800.

40 YEARS AGO: The Modesto City Council approved expansion plans for the Modesto City Hospital. The expansion was to focus on making the hospital a major obstetrical and infant intensive care facility. However, financing redevelopment of the private facility would require a $4.2 million bond measure.
