What: Community Restoration Work Day

When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon

Where: Dos Rios Ranch, 3559 Shiloh Road

Info: The Tuolumne River Trust will have a work day at the Dos Rios Ranch, an important layover for migratory birds. Any participants under 18 not accompanied by a parent need to bring a Liability Release form, available from Meg at meg@tuolumne.org or 209-613-2672. Work gloves and water bottle recommended.

What: NAMI Family to Family Education Class

When: Twelve weeks, starting March 7, 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Where: 1123 Cooper Ave.

Info: Family to Family Education Class. NAMI’s 12-week class for family members who have a loved one living with a mental illness. Some of the topics covered are signs and symptoms of an illness, communication, medications, problem-solving, basics about the brain and self-care. The class is taught by two trained family members whose loved one is living with a mental illness. To register or for more information, call Dar at 209-656-8855

What: Sunshine Club weekly lunch

When: Every Monday, 1:30 p.m.

Where: Olive Garden Restaurant, 2749 Countryside Drive

Info: The Sunshine Club is a support group for both men and women who have lost a loved one. Meet new friends who understand what suddenly being alone really means. For information, contact Darlene 209-668-6782.

YESTERYEARS

25 YEARS AGO: The Modesto City Council approved a recommendation to increase water rates on April 1. The rate increase, the bulk of the funds, would have gone toward paying the city’s share of construction costs for the $200 million surface water treatment plant for Tuolumne River water. A city staff report called for a yearly 30 percent increase that would have raised water bills to $27.14 by 1995, about the same time the plant would come on line.
