Modesto man identified as victim in motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist hit by two vehicles in west Modesto died Thursday night.

Law enforcement officers were called to Woodland and Lone Palm avenues about 6:15 p.m. with a report of a crash involving a vehicle and motorcyclist.

When they arrived, they found Joseph Young, 38, of Modesto on the road in front of a utility truck in the eastbound lane of Woodland.

According to Officer Chuck Leon of the California Highway Patrol, Young was riding a Harley Davidson west on Woodland approaching Lone Palm, where a Nissan pickup driven by 59-year-old Antone Lopez of Ceres was stopped at a stop sign.

For unknown reasons, Lopez pulled in front of Young, who hit the left side of the pickup.

The impact sent Young and his motorcycle into the eastbound lane of Woodland, where he was struck by a utility truck driven by Elmer Delgado, 34, of Livingston. The motorcycle continued west and down an embankment on the south side of Woodland.

Young died at the scene. His body was covered by a white sheet as law enforcement shut down Woodland between Graphics Drive and North Emerald Avenue.

The incident remains under investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
