There will be a changing of the guard at Tuesday’s Modesto City Council meeting as outgoing Mayor Garrad Marsh says goodbye and incoming Mayor Ted Brandvold takes the oath of office and his seat on the council.

Brandvold defeated Marsh in the Feb. 2 mayoral runoff election, garnering 58 percent of the vote to Marsh’s 42 percent. The two were the top vote-getters in the Nov. 3 election among five candidates. A runoff was held because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in November.

Brandvold joins new members Kristi Ah You, Mani Grewal and Doug Ridnour, who were elected Nov. 3, on the seven-member council. The mayor and council members serve four-year terms. Council members earn $24,000 and the mayor earns $43,200 annually.

Marsh has held elected office for 12 years, the last four as mayor and the first eight as a councilman.

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the basement chambers of Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St.
