Girl Scout cookies delivered to troops in Modesto
They came by minivan, by trailer and by U-Haul.
Representatives from more than 500 Girl Scout troops, from Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Merced and Calaveras counties started lining up just after dawn Monday to pick up cookies for the annual sale.
The scouts have been taking pre-orders for the cookies; sales at sites such as local grocery stores will start this week, according to Stephanie Riley, spokeswoman for the Girl Scouts Heart of Central California. Site sales account for about half of all the profits, she said.
While volunteers filled orders, one troop was on hand to promote the sales. Members Juliana Nunez, 9, and Madison Sanguinetti, 10, went above and beyond by holding a sign and manning a table: They wrote and performed a rap to encourage sales.
Each troop sets a sales goal as agreed upon by members. Juliana, Madison and their fellow troop members are raising money to go on a camping trip to Santa Cruz.
Need to find out where you can get your hands on some Thin Mints or Caramel deLites? Go online to http://girlscoutcookies.org. You can also download the “Cookie Finder” app on your smartphone, Riley said. “It will tell you when and where the nearest sales are.”
