Mobile home in south Modesto burns

Fire largely gutted a mobile home on the 600 block of South Seventh Street on Tuesday morning. The fire at a unit toward the back of Modesto Mobile Village was reported about 7:05 a.m.

Modesto and Ceres firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from the home. The sole occupant, a woman, had gotten out safely, Modesto Fire Department Battalion Chief Hugo Patino said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, then used a fan to clear smoke from the home and sprayed water on areas that were smoldering.

Patino said he’d not yet talked with the resident and the cause of the fire was not immediately clear, but a neighbor said the woman had been borrowing power from his unit and he saw candles burning in the home Monday night.
