YESTERYEARS
100 YEARS AGO: The residents of Empire, along with the Empire Boosters and the Empire Board of Trade, met at Bechtel Hall to formally petition the county for the right to build a school within the city limit. At that time, Empire students had to travel to Garner School near Modesto. A committee was formed by A.M. Bechtel, president, to make a study of the feasibility of the group’s desire for a school building.
