YESTERYEARS

75 YEARS AGO: The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors approved the formation of Rock Creek Water District. To finalize the formation of the water district, a special election was set for Feb. 27 to complete the organization’s setup of the water storage system. Four growers – C.B Orvis, Marguerite Rhodes, O.B. Rhodes and Annie Moran – were planning to purchase Salt Springs reservoir in Calaveras County as part of the water district’s formation. It had 11,000 acre-feet of storage and would cost $30,000 to purchase.
