Info: The Traveleers meet on Friday mornings at 11 a.m. Trips for 2016 include overnight trips to Solvang, Cambria and Hearst Castle. Day-trip adventures each month throughout Northern California. When: Sign-ups Monday through Friday, Jan. 11 through 29, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Fremont Elementary School office, 1220 W. Orangeburg Ave.
Info: Fremont Open Plan, Modesto City Schools’ public alternative school for kindergarten through sixth grade, will offer school tours. Kindergarten enrollment is lottery-based. Parents and guardians interested in participating in the 2016-17 school year lottery must visit the school office in January to register for a tour and sign up to attend two mandatory parent meetings. YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: Under the Manpower Development and Training Act, Modesto Junior College graduated 30 potential cooks, waitresses and bank tellers from their vocational retraining program. Robert Miller, vice president of Central Valley National Bank, spoke at the tellers’ completion ceremony held at New Hope School, while the cooks and waitresses held their completion ceremony at the Boiler Inn.
