YESTERYEARS
25 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Riverbank Army Ammunition Depot would have to wait another week before it could turn on the $1 million filtration plant due to frozen pipes. When turned on, the filtration system would remove toxic chemicals from the water under the plant. The entire cleanup of the plant would take 20 years and cost $10 million to $15 million. The process was needed when traces of chromium and cyanide were found in private wells near the 167-acre facility.
