Info: Fremont Open Plan, Modesto City Schools’ public alternative school for kindergarten through sixth grade, will offer school tours. Kindergarten enrollment is lottery-based. Parents and guardians interested in participating in the 2016-17 school year lottery must visit the school office in January to register for a tour and sign up to attend two mandatory parent meetings. 25 YEARS AGO: The Stanislaus County Library announced plans to phase out videocasettes of feature films, shifting the offerings to documentaries, educational films and other non-fiction productions. Librarian Judy Ferreira said the change will allow the library to devote its trim video budget to tapes not available for rent in stores. Fans of the program lamented the decision, saying the downtown Modesto library circulated classics and foreign films in a variety of genres that are hard to find.
