One badly hurt in Highway 108 crash at Knights Ferry
Two people were injured in a crash on Highway 108/120 in Knights Ferry on Monday morning when two vehicles collided as a result of the reckless driving of a third car that was not involved in the crash.
The uninvolved vehicle, described as a gold Honda sedan, was traveling eastbound at 5:40 a.m., crossing solid double lines to pass other cars west of Kennedy Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Chuck Leon.
“State Route 108/120 at this location has limited sight due to a curve and a change in elevation,” he said.
Sunseeahray Diaz, 30, of Sonora, was driving west in a Chevrolet Trailblazer when she saw the gold sedan driving toward her in the westbound lane.
In an effort to avoid the gold sedan, Diaz turned to the left, lost control and would up in the eastbound lane. She avoided the gold car but her Trailblazer crashed head on into a Chevrolet pickup traveling east.
The driver of the pickup, 48-year-old Hector Haro, of Modesto, suffered major injuries, Leon said. He was taken by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Diaz, who had minor injuries, was also taken to Memorial Medical Center.
The driver of the Gold Honda – described as a Civic, Accord or similar model – fled from the scene, Leon said.
Anyone with information about the car or its driver is asked to call Leon or Officer Bryce Disch at 209-545-7440.
