What: Candlelight tours of the McHenry Mansion
When: Dec. 18 and 20, 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: McHenry Mansion, 15th and I streets
Info: During the tours, visitors will see docents dressed in period clothing demonstrating Victorian life as it was during the holidays. One might see popcorn stringing, musicians, a gingerbread house being decorated and much more. The mansion is beautifully decorated for Christmas as it would have looked in the 1880s. The fee for this event is $5.

What: Modesto Computer Users Group technology workshop on showing seniors television options
When: Dec. 17, 6 p.m.
Where: Denny’s Restaurant, 4324 Salida Blvd.

What: “Lights Before Christmas”
When: Dec. 12, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.; decorations will remain up through December
Where: Applegate Zoo, 1045 W. 25th St.
Info: The “Lights Before Christmas” extravaganza offers several activities. Children can make decorations in Santa’s Workshop, pet the “reindeer” and visit with Santa. The cost is $3, with kids 5 and under $1. It’s sponsored by the Merced Parks and Recreation Department and the Merced Zoological Society. For a list of activities, go to www.MercedZoo.org.

100 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Modesto High School rugby team defeated the Hughson High School rugby team with a score of 20-0. For the Panthers, it was their third victory in the season’s series, with the Huskies only winning once in four matches.
