Driver, motorcyclist in Modesto crash ID’d
Modesto police have identified the SUV driver and motorcyclist involved in a collision Wednesday afternoon that cost the cyclist part of a leg.
The cyclist is Jason Wright, 44, of Sonora, who remained hospitalized in Modesto on Thursday in stable condition, said Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves.
The driver of the Toyota Highlander is Sharon Costley, 79, of Oakdale.
The crash occurred east of the Briggsmore Avenue-McHenry Avenue intersection at about 3:25 p.m.
Costley was at a stop sign in the break in the Briggsmore median that allows motorists to enter the McHenry Village shopping center on its north side. She pulled into the eastbound lanes of Briggsmore and into Wright’s path.
The collision threw him from his cycle into a couple of parked cars in the shopping center lot. His left leg was severed about midway down in the crash, Graves said.
The accident remains under investigation, she said, but distracted driving and drugs or alcohol are not thought to be factors.
