Quarter inch of rain possible in Modesto, weather service says
Modesto could receive between a tenth and a quarter inch of rain Thursday, the National Weather Service predicts, reporting an 80 percent chance of precipitation. It forecasts a south-southwest wind of 10 to 14 mph, with gusts up to 18 mph.
The storm moving through the Valley and Sierra through early Friday should bring wet, heavy snow and travel hazards over Sierra routes. There is a slight risk, the weather service says, of debris flows over recently burned areas. The scarred Rim fire area, for example, could get 1.5 to 2.5 inches of precipitation.
By the time the storm passes Friday, Modesto may receive up to a half an inch of rain, the weather service says, and the Sonora area up to 2 inches.
The high in Modesto on Thursday should be near 60, the nighttime low 44. Winds will calm to about 5 mph.
Showers are likely in the Modesto area Friday, mainly before 10 a.m. The high should be near 57.
Saturday will be partly sunny, with a high near 55. Saturday night will bring a 30 percent chance of rain. The chance increases to 60 percent Sunday, when the high will be near 57.
The last precipitation in the weather service’s seven-day forecast is Monday, when there will be a slight chance of showers.
