YESTERYEARS
40 YEARS AGO: The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved pay raises and fringe benefits for the county’s 2,000 full-time employees. The average increase was about 6 percent, while the salaries of five department heads were doubled. It broke down to 2.5 percent for all rank-and-file employees and the county would pay 75 percent of retirement plan costs, up from the original 50 percent.
