Utilities workers recognized for kindness

A Coulterville man posted on the city of Modesto’s Facebook page a note recently thanking Dave Shackleford and Kenny Utz of the city’s Utilities Department. Heading to a follow-up appointment after hip replacement surgery, the man’s car tire blew out.

“I was outside on the road, using a walker and trying to jack the car up with a lot of difficulty,” he wrote. “Many people drove by but made no effort to stop when a city van pulled up and asked if my wife and I needed help.”

Shackleford and Utz installed the spare but noticed it was low on air. They followed the couple to a nearby gas station and filled it for them.

“Modesto should be proud to have employees of their caliber,” the man wrote.
