Pedestrian badly injured on Yosemite Boulevard in Modesto

A 66-year-old Modesto man was badly injured when he was struck by a vehicle in the area of Yosemite Boulevard and South Santa Cruz Avenue about 7 a.m. Thursday.

According to scanner reports, the impact was at about 35 mph. The man was identified as Roland Amaya, a resident of the Modesto and Salida areas. He was receiving CPR in an ambulance as he was transported to a hospital, Modesto police Lt. Jason Grogan said.

Amaya was crossing Yosemite outside a crosswalk, police said. The driver, who’d been traveling west on Yosemite, remained at the scene and did not appear injured. Drugs or alcohol were determined not to have been factors in the crash.

The investigation kept westbound traffic blocked on Yosemite from La Loma Avenue to Santa Cruz for more than an hour, but eastbound lanes were open.
