Driver crashes car, downs power pole in west Modesto

A driver speeding in west Modesto lost control of his vehicle on Tuesday night and crashed into a power pole.

The pole fell across Torrid Avenue near Jayhawk Way just west of North Carpenter Road, blocking the roadway.

The driver, who according to police got into his vehicle after a dispute with his girlfriend, was able to get out of the car. However, the man, believed to be in his 20s, was later taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.

The accident occurred at about 7:45 p.m.

Torrid was closed to traffic as crews contended with the downed power line.

The Modesto Irrigation District was working the scene and six homes on Jayhawk were expected to be without power the rest of the night.
