YESTERYEARS

100 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Modesto community Christmas tree would either be placed at I and Tenth streets or at the courthouse park. The decisions for the tree were made by the Ministerial Union. The president of the union – the Rev. H.K. Pitman, pastor of Presbyterian Church and president of the Modesto Relief Association, – was to make the arrangements for the community Christmas tree, along with the proper observance of the season, along with his with co-chair, the Rev. E.G. Keith, pastor of Methodist Episcopal church. Final decision were planned for Monday, along with any other committee appointments.
