House fire displaces seven people in south Modesto
Seven people, including two children, were displaced from their home on Wednesday after a fire spread through their house in south Modesto.
Firefighters were called to the 2200 block of Millcreek Drive at about 11:30 a.m. on a report of a fire in the back enclosed patio area of the home.
When firefighters arrived, they found flames also had moved into the interior of the two-story home, according to Battalion Chief Randy Wheeler of the Ceres Fire Department.
With the help of the Modesto Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, the blaze was under control in about 20 minutes.
There was nobody home at the time. The last person to leave had been there about 30 minutes earlier, Wheeler said.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, although it remains under investigation. No nearby homes were threatened, Wheeler said.
There was no cost damage available at the time, although Wheeler said it was extensive.
The American Red Cross helped the family with short-term housing.
