Ceres police officer shops, cooks for elderly woman
What started as a call of a deceased person turned into a touching holiday story, thanks to a concerned police officer.
According to Ceres police, Officer Mike Vierra responded to the call Monday in the 1300 block of Tranquil Lane. When he arrived, he found that Lorene Hoselton’s son had passed away.
Hoselton is in her 90s, and her son was her primary caretaker. The rest of her family lives out of the area.
Vierra, concerned for Hoselton’s welfare, returned to her home a couple of days later.
“He wanted to basically follow up with her,” Sgt. Jason Coley said.
He found that Hoselton was hungry and needed groceries. Vierra collected money from fellow officers on his squad, went grocery shopping for Hoselton and then cooked her a warm meal.
Vierra also checked with Hoselton’s family to ensure someone would be able to provide for her care. In the meantime, Coley said, “We’re going to be doing some house checks on her.”
