Pedestrian in critical condition after he’s struck by pickup in northeast Modesto
A man is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in northeast Modesto late Sunday afternoon.
Sgt. David Mullins of the Modesto Police Department said the man was walking north while crossing Floyd Avenue along Lincoln Oak Drive at 5:29 p.m., when he was hit by a full-sized Chevrolet pickup.
The woman, in her 20s, also was traveling north on Lincoln while attempting to turn left onto Floyd and hit the man, who had just passed the halfway point of the crosswalk.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, flew about 25 feet and landed along the north side of Floyd, Mullins said. He said the woman was traveling at a normal speed to make a turn and just didn’t see the man.
She immediately stopped and went to check on the man while calling 911. She was cooperative with officers.
The man, who was worked on by emergency crews at the scene, was taken to a nearby hospital and was likely in surgery Sunday evening, Mullins said.
Police checked the woman for drugs and alcohol and determined neither played a role in the accident.
We’ll have more on the story as information becomes available.
