The Modesto Police Department is looking for children to help.

The department wants 10 children to participate in the upcoming Heroes and Helpers event on Dec. 6 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at the Target store on McHenry Avenue.

Each selected child will shop alongside police personnel with a $200 gift card.

Nominees must live in Modesto, be in kindergarten through 12th grade, be available for the Dec. 6 shopping event and fit into one of the following categories:

▪ A child who is making a difference in the community

▪ A child who is succeeding in school after turning his or her life around

▪ A child who has suffered a personal or family tragedy and persevered

▪ A child who has overcome adversity and is helping others.

Nominations are due by Nov. 25 and should be emailed to hh@modestopd.com. With the nomination, include the child’s name, age, grade, parent or guardian’s name, contact information and, most importantly, why the child is being nominated.
