What: The God of Abraham: Christians, Muslims and Jews gather in peace, praise and Thanksgiving

Info: The public is welcome to join these congregations for a short program of learning, singing and sharing about gratitude in the Abrahamic traditions.

What: Free documentary film “Harvest of Empire”

When: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday

Where: Modesto Junior College, East Campus, Forum 110, 435 College Ave.

Info: This film, which is subtitled “The Untold Story of Latinos in America,” argues that the growing presence of Latinos in America can be viewed as a “harvest of empire” and needs to be understood within the context of the United States’ history of intervention in Latin America. What: Parent Resource Center poinsettia fundraiser

When: Orders accepted through Nov. 24

Info: The center will hold its 19th annual poinsettia fundraiser and new this year are predecorated European trees (small potted Christmas trees). “Euro-trees” come with light seasonal decorations with pots wrapped in festive foil ($12 each). The poinsettias come in traditional Christmas red and are wrapped in red foil. Two sizes will be available (regular $10 and large for $30). Orders are taken through Nov. 24 and will be available for pickup on Dec. 3. Free local delivery is available for orders of six or more plants. CERES

What: The Ceres Police Officers Association and the Ceres Police Department’s third annual toy drive and shop with a cop program, also known as Beards for Kids.

When: Starting Nov. 24, officers and civilian staff will don beards to help bring awareness to underprivileged children in the Ceres community and put out donation bins to collect toys. Ceres police will take 10 families shopping on Dec. 19.

Where: Toys can be donated at the Ceres Police Department, 2727 Third St.; Ceres Community Center, 2701 Fourth St.; and both Dollar Tree locations in Ceres; 1330 E. Hatch Road and 6748 E. Whitmore Ave.

Info: In addition to collecting toys, Ceres police will be sponsoring 10 families for its Beards for Kids program. Walmart donated $2,500, which will be used to take five families shopping. The department is asking for local Ceres businesses to match or top that donation to take five other families shopping. Every business that donates $500 will allow Ceres police to take a family shopping. If your business would like to make a cash donation, contact CPOA President Danny Vierra at 209-538-5672.

YESTERYEARS

50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that a 33-acre site at Coffee Road and Floyd Avenue would be developed into a joint multi-use residential subdivision and neighborhood shopping center. Robert P. Bomberger, president of Bomberger Brothers Inc., said the building site sale would begin immediately for the Coffee Plaza subdivision and that the commercial side would be open later in 1966.
