Comcast customers lose service after fire
An electrical fire at Comcast’s Fresno facility Wednesday morning resulted in some of the company’s customers in Fresno, Visalia and Modesto losing phone, television and Internet service, a company official said.
Comcast spokesman Bryan Byrd said control panels at the facility were damaged and that engineers were working to fix the problem. He said service was expected to be restored by about 3 p.m. Wednesday, but disruptions lasted for hours after that.
Byrd did not know how many customers lost service.
The website downdetector.com was reporting the outages were more widespread, including much of the Valley and foothills and Bay Area.
Byrd said the outages were among pockets of customers in the three cities and that not all customers lost TV, Internet and phone service. But he said that was the case in Modesto, where the outages started around 11:30 a.m.
Comcast Cable is the nation’s largest video, high-speed Internet and phone provider to businesses and residential customers, according to a company news release.
The Fresno Bee and Modesto Bee reporter Kevin Valine contributed to this report.
