Fire strikes south Modesto motel; woman’s body found in room

A woman was found dead Saturday after an early morning motel fire in south Modesto.

Modesto and Ceres firefighters responded to a blaze reported at the Arrow Inn in the 500 block of South Ninth Street at 5:30 a.m. According to Modesto fire officials, one room was completely destroyed in the one-story motel, and another 10 to 12 units were damaged by flames and smoke.

A woman’s body was discovered in the destroyed unit, said Stanislaus sheriff’s Lt. Mike Parker. The woman’s identity is unknown at this time and authorities are investigating her death.

The cause of the blaze is also unknown and will be investigated by the Ceres Fire Department. There were no other injuries reported.
