What: Screening of “Harvest of Empire”

When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

Where: Forum 110 on MJC’s east campus, 435 College Ave.

Info: The documentary “Harvest of Empire,” which is subtitled “The Untold Story of Latinos in America,” argues that the growing presence of Latinos in the United States can be viewed as a “harvest of empire” and needs to be understood within the context of the United States’ history of intervention in Latin America. The free event is part of the CEP Fall Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots. 100 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Modesto Irrigation District had approved and signed three contracts with companies to make improvements to the canal system. In its decision, the board of directors approved the bonds and accident insurance with the project bids. The three companies involved in the project were: Tieslau Brothers of San Francisco for $2,572; G.J. Ulrich for $19,340; and Peart Brothers of Oakland for $72,800.
