It was audience participation night at the Modesto City Council on Tuesday. Modesto Recycling Program Coordinator Vicki Rice asked audience members to help carry 120 bags of baby clothes from the council chambers after she gave a presentation about where they were going.

Modesto, Stanislaus County and Vintage Faire Mall partnered to collect the clothing for Second Chance Week, part of a nationwide public awareness campaign that promotes recycling of items and has the motto Reuse, Repair, Resale and Donate.

The new and gently used clothes were distributed to four charities: the Modesto Pregnancy Center; the Center for Human Services; the Salvation Army; and the Cal SAFE, or School Age Families Education, program. Cal SAFE will give the clothes to students with children who attend the Elliot Alternative Education Center.
