Head-on collision sends couple to hospital

A head-on collision just north of Turlock sent a husband and wife to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a call of a four-car crash on Geer Road just south of Grayson Road. CHP Officer Gustavo Ruvalcaba said a 22-year-old man in a silver Toyota Sequoia SUV was driving north on Geer when he failed to notice two cars in front of him had stopped while waiting for one of them to turn. The SUV driver hit one of the stopped cars and then swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a white pickup head-on as it was traveling south on Geer.

Ruvalcaba said the pickup driver and passenger, a 51-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman, suffered major injuries in the crash and were taken to an area hospital. The driver of the SUV and those in the other vehicles suffered minor injuries. The man remains in critical condition and the woman, who suffered broken bones, is also still in the hospital.

Ruvalcaba said no alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, although speed was a factor. The names of the victims and the pickup driver were not available.
