Man struck by train near Denair identified but family not located

A homeless man died Thursday night when he was struck by a freight train south of Denair.

The man was sitting in the tracks that parallel Santa Fe Avenue south of N. Vincent Road, slumped over with a blanket wrapped around him, said Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputy-Coroner Tom Killian.

Just before 11 p.m., a crew member on a southbound BNSF train saw the man and sounded the horn. The man did not move before being struck by the train, Killian said.

The man was identified through fingerprints as 59-year-old Hasinto Bautista, with an alias of Jacinto Perez. Killian said he has been arrested and booked under both names in Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.

Killian has not been able to locate family for Bautista. Family or anyone with information about Bautista’s family is asked to call Killian at (209) 567-4544.
