What: Tuolumne County Historical Society meeting
When: Nov. 12, 7 p.m.
Where: Community Room, Tuolumne County Library, 480 Greenley Road
Info: A movie of the 1941 Sonora Soap Box Derby will be the topic. Monty Youngborg, a veteran historical researcher, said a 16 mm film of the derby was discovered recently. The silent film has been converted to digital format and will be shown on the large projection screen. Following the presentation, Youngborg will answer questions and highlight the results of this year’s Soap Box Derby held in Tuolumne during the 2015 Labor Day weekend.
TURLOCK
What: 12th annual Turlock/Modesto AAUW A Taste for Giving wine social
When: Nov. 12, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Toscana's Ristorante, 1801 Colorado Ave.
Info: Wine, buffet dinner, drawings, silent auction, works of 10 local artists in silent auction. Tickets $40 per person or $400 for a reserved table for eight. Proceeds benefit scholarships and sending seventh-grade girls to STEM camp at California State University, Fresno. Info: Good Time Accordion Club monthly music and social event. Accordion fans and performers of all levels are welcome, Admission is $5 at the door. YESTERYEARS
75 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the American Legion Rex Ish Post No. 88 in Turlock was finalizing plans for an Armistice Parade for the following Monday. The observance of the day would begin at the post’s office at 9:30 a.m. The keynote speaker scheduled for the evening’s programmed events was Archie Closson, past commander of the California Legion.
