Info: The Yosemite Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is hosting an educational lunch and program for nonprofit and business professionals. Program will feature Carole Richard, J.D., CFRE, director of College and Athletic Development at California State University, Stanislaus, presenting “Planned Giving – Charting the Course.” Cost is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers; lunch included. What: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Info: The Society for Disabilities is seeking volunteers to help with the hosting of Warren Miller’s “No Turning Back” film presentation at The State Theatre, Dec. 5-6. Volunteers are needed to sell raffle tickets, hand out programs and throw prizes to the audience. What: COMMUNITY FLU CLINIC

When: Wednesday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Where: Oakdale Family Resource Center, 631 W. F St.

Info: The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency’s Public Health Services is holding a community flu vaccination clinic for anyone 6 months or older. Suggested cost is $27 for adults, $10 for children, but no one will be turned away for inability to pay. Additional clinics will be held through November. For more information on clinics or vaccinations, call the county Health Services Agency at (209) 558-8320.


Ceres

What: CAROLING FOR CANS

When: Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m.

Where: Area of Don Pedro Park and Blaker Road

Info: Central Valley High School FFA will be “Caroling for Cans.” Those living in the area of the caroling are invited to leave canned nonperishable items on their doorstep or wait for members to come to the door to collect them. All proceeds will be donated to a local charity for the holiday season.

YESTERYEARS

75 YEARS AGO: In the town of Newman, Mayor L.J. Newman named the general citizens committee that would assist in conducting the 1940 census. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Harry L. Hopkins requested that such a committee be formed and that Mayor Newman preside as its chairman. The committee was made up of merchants and other prominent figures in the community.
