Rainbow Fields near Riverbank was inducted into the National Softball Association Hall of Fame during a ceremony last week in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The facility was built in the 1970s and later went into bankruptcy. Dale and Elaine Mead of Modesto bought it nearly 30 years ago and have been running it ever since.

It has hosted numerous major softball tournaments for both fastpitch and slowpitch. The Meads and the facility were nominated by Marty Lally of Las Vegas, who is the association’s zone director, and by Chris Myer of Sacramento, the Northern California director.

Public relations firms honored

Never Boring Design Associates of Modesto took home three of the seven awards of excellence presented by the Central Valley Public Relations Organization last month in Turlock. The winners were determined by a panel of outside public relations professionals from Fresno.

Never Boring won for designing the Turlock Irrigation District’s 2012 annual report in the annual report category; for its Contentment Health issue in the newsletter/magazine category; and for its Huff Construction website.

Other winners included TID for its 2012 annual report; the Center for Human Services for its 2012-13 Community Report and for its Hutton House video; and the Stanislaus County Office of Education for its staff kickoff music video.

Women’s group names officers

The local Epsilon Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma has named its officers for 2014-16. Gloria Bracco is president; Gail McBride and Paulette Roberson, first vice president; Kaye Osborn, second vice president; Vicki Rios and Michelle Streeter, recording secretary; Carol Berberian, corresponding secretary; Ellen Vager and Judie Hardie, treasurer; Nancy Scheer, parliamentarian; Mary Lomax and Nancy Scheer, past co-presidents; and Karen Baker, sergeant-at-arms. The local Epsilon Nu Chapter has 44 members, and its yearly spring “Fun” Raiser supports local scholarships at California State University, Stanislaus; Modesto Junior College; children’s books at the Stanislaus County Library; and the Education Foundation of Stanislaus County.
