Traffic accidents kill 2

Traffic accidents over the weekend killed a Modesto man near Oakdale and a teenage Turlock boy who was riding a motorcycle, authorities said.

The 44-year-old man was killed in a single-car crash about 4:50 a.m. Sunday on Albers Road, north of Patterson Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said the driver was southbound on Albers in a 2014 Dodge and drifted onto the gravel shoulder. The vehicle continued on and struck a large tree.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of family. A CHP press release said it wasn’t known if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor.

A boy driving a motorcycle was killed and his passenger injured in a collision with a pickup truck Saturday in Turlock. Authorities have not released the names of those involved in the 9:45 a.m. crash at the roundabout intersection of South Rose and F streets.

Turlock police Sgt. Russ Holeman said the motorcycle was traveling north on Rose, as the pickup was eastbound on F. Witnesses said the pickup stopped at Rose and then proceeded into the intersection. It was almost through the intersection when it was struck by the motorcycle, which was exceeding the speed limit, Holeman said.

The teenager was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. The passenger was hospitalized. The driver of the pickup stopped immediately after the collision and cooperated with authorities. The crash is under investigation.
