A man police say was walking against a red light suffered serious injuries when he was struck by a motorcycle in west Modesto on Monday night.
It was the city’s fourth incident in the last 13 hours involving a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian or bicyclist.
According to Modesto Police, the motorcyclist was heading north on North Carpenter Road in the left lane when the man walking east on Woodland Avenue road walked in front of him.
Police said the motorcyclist had the green light and the man was walking against a red light.
The man suffered multiple fractures, according to police, and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The motorcyclist, who was sitting up and talking to officers after the accident, suffered injuries to his arm and head. He also was taken by ambulance to get treatment.
Neither injuries to the men were considered to be life-threatening.
Police credited fast-thinking witnesses who seconds after the accident stopped traffic from striking the man, who was down in the middle of the intersection.
Monday morning, two children and a 54-year-old man were struck by cars in separate accidents. All suffered head injuries and were taken to hospitals.
▪ The first collision occurred at Tuolumne Boulevard and Yosemite Avenue around 8 a.m., when a 15-year-old girl was walking in the crosswalk across from Modesto High School and was struck by a Modesto City Schools truck.
▪ A 12-year-old boy – who was either walking or riding a bike – was struck at a four-way stop at Floyd and Fine avenues in Village One in east Modesto. He was crossing the street.
▪ At the intersection of Paradise Road and Sutter Avenue, a 54-year-old man was hit by a car. Heather Graves, spokeswoman with the Modesto Police Department, said the man walked across the crosswalk, but then entered back into the street and was hit.
As of Monday night, police had no updates on the conditions of the earlier victims.
