Applications open for A Book of Dreams fundraiser

It’s only mid-September, but we at The Modesto Bee are already working on this year’s A Book of Dreams, our annual fundraiser for local nonprofit organizations.

In the 26 years since we started producing A Book of Dreams, readers have generously contributed nearly $700,000. That money has gone toward helping families find a place to live, putting together kits to help cancer patients get through treatment and providing children with a safe place to play after school. Each agency profiled is carefully screened and selected. All money donated goes toward worthwhile causes right in our own community.

Along with our partner, the Stanislaus Community Foundation, we are accepting applications from agencies interested in participating. Applications can be found at http://www.modbee.com/site-services/article34157076.html. The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Oct. 2.

Agencies will be selected in October, and we will prepare features on them for publication in our special section on Nov. 22.
