Report: Butte fire at 2,600 acres and into Calaveras County
A fire that began Wednesday afternoon in Amador County has spread quickly to Calaveras County as firefighters battle steep terrain and searing heat.
The Butte fire has grown to more than 2,600 acres and is only 30 percent contained, according to a report this morning at Mymotherlode.com.
The fire began in the area of Butte Mountain Road, east of Jackson, fire officials said. It spread south and over the Mokelumne River and into the northern part of Calaveras County.
There were reported evacuations along Amador Lane at the end of Electra and Charamuga Rancho roads. There were various road closures on Highway 26 from Happy Valley to lower Dorray Road.
