40 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Sylvan Union Elementary School District trustees voted to authorize $185,000 in district bonds to finance the purchase of a new school site. The sale was to be conducted by the Stanislaus County Board of Trustees. The sale would cause an increase in the district tax rate by about 9 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
