Modesto Police: Negotiators talk suicidal person at parking garage into surrendering
Parts of downtown were shut down this morning while Modesto Police Department officers were negotiating with a man threatening suicide from the top of a parking garage.
Officers were called to the parking garage on 11th Street between I and J streets at about 6 a.m. and issued an alert to residents to stay away from the area around J and I from Ninth to 11th streets.
Negotiators were able to talk the person into surrendering, and police began opening streets back up at about 7:05 a.m.
The man was being taken to the Stanislaus County Behavioral Health Center, police said.
