Attic fire ravages Modesto home near MJC west campus
The occupant of a house near the Modesto Junior College West Campus was not home when it caught fire early Sunday, and no one was injured, according to a Modesto Fire Department report.
The fire apparently started in the attic of a single-story house in the 2700 block of Chapparal Place and did not appear to be suspicious.
Fire crews responded at 1:50 a.m. and had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, Battalion Chief Hugo Patino said.
Neighbors called the occupant, who was out of town and returned Sunday morning to find about $150,000 in damage.
