10 route options for South County Corridor to be unveiled
A third round of public workshops is coming for the South County Corridor, a future expressway linking Highway 99 near Turlock to Interstate 5.
We started with over 90 options for potential alignments connecting Interstate 5 and Highway 99.
Rosa De Leon Park
executive director, StanCOGPeople attending previous town hall meetings came up with suggestions for 90 different alignments, or potential paths that the 18-mile, four-lane expressway could take.
“We have narrowed that down to 10, based on a tremendous amount of public input and technical evaluation,” said Rosa De Leon Park, the Stanislaus Council of Government’s newly hired executive director.
Interest has focused on the road’s west connection to I-5. Patterson is making a case for an interchange at Zacharias Road north of town near the city’s industrial parks, while Stanislaus County leaders would prefer that the South County Corridor serve the dream of a huge industrial complex near Crows Landing and the Fink Road interchange. Newman likes that idea, too.
On the east end, Turlock leaders have envisioned the expressway replacing West Main Street with access to the city’s Westside industrial zone, while others suggested Fulkerth Road.
People will be asked at the upcoming meetings to share opinions about the 10 options on StanCOG’s short list.
All workshops begin at 6:30 p.m. according to this schedule:
▪ Tuesday, Turlock council chamber, 156 S. Broadway Ave.
▪ Wednesday, Hammon Senior Center, 1033 Las Palmas Ave., Patterson
▪ Thursday, Newman council chamber, 938 Fresno St.
