Man found in Ceres canal identified as Modesto man

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the man found dead in a Ceres canal as 61-year-old Richard Mountinho.

The Modesto man was found Tuesday morning near a grate in the canal along East Hatch Road just east of Central Avenue.

The man’s cause of death is undetermined pending autopsy results. Ceres police continue to investigating whether foul play had a role.
