Man pulled unconscious from river in Knights Ferry

alt text

On Independence Day afternoon, an adult man was pulled out of the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry after sustaining injuries consistent with a fall.

“The gentlemen either jumped in or fell in, we’re not exactly sure how he ended up in the river,” said Capt. Joseph Spani of the Modesto Fire Department.

The man had floated down the river unconscious and was found by bystanders before being pulled out by Fire Department personnel.

“The person did have a pulse and was breathing,” Spani said, adding that CPR was not necessary.

The fire department pulled him up to the road, where he was airlifted to a hospital.

There was an approximately 30-minute road closure on Highway 108 and near Sonora Road, but that has cleared.
