What: MALL KIDS CLUB

Where: Vintage Faire Mall, Center Court, 3401 Dale Road

Info: The Vintage Faire Mall Kids Club offers children a fun and interactive setting with educational games and activities. Kids Club has teamed with National Geographic Kids to present discovery through play. Hosted by DJ Walker of KAT Country, Kids Club meets the third Thursday of each month. What: LATINO COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING

When: Friday, 8:15 a.m.

Where: El Concilio Community Center, 1314 H St.

Info: The Latino Community Council meeting will feature guest speakers Brian White of the Turlock Fire Department and Michelle Backeroff, Turlock Police Department crime prevention specialist. What: POETRY ON SUNDAY

When: Sunday, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Where: Carnegie Arts Center, 250 N. Broadway Ave.

Info: Four regional poets – Karen Mitchell, Gillian Wegener, Jennifer Lagler and Nancee Kinkaid Maya – will present readings of original works, followed by an open-mike session. Hosted by the Modesto-Stanislaus Poetry Center. For more information, call 209-632-5761.


Salida

What: ANIME DAY

When: Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.

Where: Salida branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 4835 Sisk Road

Info: Teens, tweens and children are invited to celebrate the art of Japanese animation with an anime party. Activities include making candy sushi, watching anime TV show and making anime-related crafts. Participants are invited to attend in costume as their favorite anime characters, but costumes are not required. For more information, call 209-558-7810.

Yesteryears

50 YEARS AGO: The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee approved a $4.33 million public works bill. Included in that bill was $150 million for water projects in California. Within the $150 million for California was an earmark of $1.5 million for the start of New Melones Dam, to be built on the Stanislaus River.
